We send clients to San Antonio for one thing above all: the sunset. The bay faces due west, and the ritual that made this town famous is far better from your own deck at anchor than from the crowded promenade below Cafe del Mar.
Our take on this side of Ibiza: San Antonio is a base for the west coast water, not a destination town. The clearest calas on the island run north and south of the bay, and Es Vedra, the dramatic offshore rock, is an easy cruise down the coast.
Mooring and marina notes
The bay is broad and well protected from the prevailing summer breeze, with room to anchor off the beaches on its northern side. The town marina suits smaller yachts; anything larger anchors out, which in this bay costs you nothing. In our experience the anchorage fills from late afternoon ahead of sunset, so we plan our clients in early for the front-row spots.
What’s around the port
Cala Conta, a short hop south, has some of the clearest water in the Balearics and a proper lunch scene; it’s one of our favorite stops on the whole island. Cala Bassa and Cala Salada bracket the bay. Ashore, San Antonio is the island’s party side. Most of our clients touch it for the sunset strip and spend the rest of their time on the quieter water nearby.
