01 Mallorca yacht charter

The Balearics, planned properly.

Mallorca and Ibiza are two of the best destinations in the Med for a crewed yacht charter. You get better value than the South of France, fewer crowds, and direct access to clear-water anchorages, beach clubs, and marine parks across the Balearics.

Based here in the islands, we know the local fleet, the best routes to hotspots and secret spots, and the yachts worth your time. Whether you're planning a 7-day charter around Mallorca or an extended cruise through Ibiza, Formentera, and Menorca, we help you do it right.

  • Ex-captains and lifelong sailors who know these islands, anchorages, and marine-park rules first-hand.
  • Honest value guidance, often better boat-for-money than the South of France, with fewer crowds.
  • 5.0 from 485 reviews, a track record you can check.

Frequently asked questions.

Can we visit Ibiza and Formentera from Mallorca?
John Boullin, yacht charter broker with DMA YachtingJohn Boullin
Yacht charter broker, DMA Yachting

Yes, and it is one of the best weeks the Mediterranean offers, but it needs to be planned as a real itinerary rather than a side trip. The crossing from Mallorca to Ibiza is roughly 50 nautical miles of open water: a comfortable few hours on a fast motor yacht, a committed passage on a sailing cat. Once across, Formentera's beaches and Ibiza's evenings reward the effort completely.

The honest broker version: on a 7-day charter, including Ibiza and Formentera means giving the crossing its due and trimming Mallorca time. Ten days does it justice. We wrote up exactly this decision here: Mallorca to Ibiza: Is It Actually Realistic?

If the answer is yes, the route is proven: our 8-day Balearic Islands itinerary runs Mallorca, Ibiza, and Formentera in one loop, and we match the yacht's speed to the plan so the crossing is a highlight rather than a slog.

What is the VAT on a Mallorca yacht charter?
Marcelle Hailwax, yacht charter broker with DMA YachtingMarcelle Hailwax

21%, Spain's standard VAT rate, applied to the charter fee for charters starting in Spanish waters. It is charged on the charter fee itself, not on the APA or the crew gratuity, and it is due with the final payment.

The treatment can adjust for itineraries that leave EU waters, which for Balearic charters is uncommon, so treat your written quote as the definitive number rather than a listing's fine print.

It is one of the higher charter VAT rates in the Mediterranean, and it is exactly why we quote all-in from the first email: a rate that looks attractive before VAT, APA, and gratuity can land very differently after. Worked examples: How Much Does a Mallorca Yacht Charter Cost?

How many days do we need for a Mallorca yacht charter?
Carina Isenberg, yacht charter broker with DMA YachtingCarina Isenberg
Yacht charter broker, DMA Yachting

Seven days is the sweet spot for Mallorca itself: enough to circle the island's best coastline at a relaxed pace, from the southwest calas to the Tramuntana coast and Pollensa, without ever feeling like you are commuting. Five days does the southwest beautifully; three days makes a superb long weekend around Palma's bays.

Add Ibiza and Formentera and the math changes: the open-water crossings deserve their own days, so we recommend 8 to 10 days for the full Balearic loop rather than squeezing it into seven.

We wrote the full decision guide here, with route examples per trip length: How Many Days Do You Need for a Mallorca Yacht Charter? Tell us your dates and wish list and we will show you what honestly fits.

What do you eat on a Mallorca yacht charter?
Marcelle Hailwax, yacht charter broker with DMA YachtingMarcelle Hailwax
Yacht charter broker & former yacht chef, DMA Yachting

Whatever your group loves, cooked by a private chef who provisioned the boat specifically for you. Before the charter you fill in a preference sheet: favorites, dislikes, allergies, how adventurous the table should be, and what the bar should hold. The chef builds the week's menus around it. This answer comes from inside the galley: Marcelle cooked aboard charter yachts before joining our broker desk.

Provisioning in Mallorca is a chef's luxury: Palma's markets and suppliers rival any Mediterranean port, so expect local red prawns from Soller, fresh fish, island lamb and cheeses, and proper Spanish wine on the list. Mid-week top-ups are easy here, which means more spontaneity than remote destinations allow.

Dietary needs are routine, not a complication: vegan, gluten-free, kosher-style, and kids' menus are everyday work. Put everything on the preference sheet, and on standard charters the food and drinks come out of the APA.

Are there anchoring restrictions in Mallorca?
Carina Isenberg, yacht charter broker with DMA YachtingCarina Isenberg
Yacht charter broker, DMA Yachting

Yes, and they are the reason the water looks the way it does. The Balearics protect their posidonia seagrass meadows, the bright underwater fields that keep the sea clear and the beaches white, and anchoring on posidonia is prohibited and enforced with real fines. Popular calas manage the pressure with marked buoy fields, some bookable in advance, some first-come.

What this means for you as a guest: almost nothing, and that is the point of a crewed charter. Your captain knows the sand patches where anchoring is free and legal, books buoys where they are needed, and plans the route so the best stops are secured rather than hoped for.

It does reward booking with people who know the island: in August, the difference between a captain who knows the buoy systems and one who does not is the difference between lunch in the cala you wanted and lunch in the one that had space.

A Week in Mallorca

My family and I recently enjoyed a fantastic week on a yacht arranged by John Boullin at DMA Yachting in Mallorca. It was our first ever charter, and we couldn’t have chosen a more perfect yacht and crew. We stayed aboard Raoul W, crewed by Johnny and Steffie, who were absolutely amazing. A huge thank you to John at DMA for putting it all together and helping us create such an unforgettable experience!

Ibiza & Formentera Charter

We chartered a Lagoon 62 in Ibiza. The booking process went smoothly — we were shown numerous boats and recommended exactly the right one for our family. All of our questions were always answered quickly, and every request was accommodated. The boat was great, the crew was too, everything was perfect.

Outstanding Service From Start to Finish

We had an absolutely amazing experience with DMA Yachting. From the very beginning, the service was top-notch, and communication was always clear, quick, and professional. Our broker, Didier, made sure all of our needs and preferences were understood and taken care of. The boat itself was incredible, and the crew provided some of the best service we could have ever imagined. It was an unforgettable trip and a 10/10 experience.
