The crossing from Mallorca to Ibiza is roughly 50 nautical miles of open water: a comfortable few hours on a fast motor yacht, a committed passage on a sailing cat. Once across, Formentera's beaches and Ibiza's evenings reward the effort completely.

Carina IsenbergYes, and they are the reason the water looks the way it does. The Balearics protect their posidonia seagrass meadows, the bright underwater fields that keep the sea clear and the beaches white, and anchoring on posidonia is prohibited and enforced with real fines. Popular calas manage the pressure with marked buoy fields, some bookable in advance, some first-come.
What this means for you as a guest: almost nothing, and that is the point of a crewed charter. Your captain knows the sand patches where anchoring is free and legal, books buoys where they are needed, and plans the route so the best stops are secured rather than hoped for.
It does reward booking with people who know the island: in August, the difference between a captain who knows the buoy systems and one who does not is the difference between lunch in the cala you wanted and lunch in the one that had space.
Carina IsenbergSeven days is the sweet spot for Mallorca itself: enough to circle the island's best coastline at a relaxed pace, from the southwest calas to the Tramuntana coast and Pollensa, without ever feeling like you are commuting. Five days does the southwest beautifully; three days makes a superb long weekend around Palma's bays.
Add Ibiza and Formentera and the math changes: the open-water crossings deserve their own days, so we recommend 8 to 10 days for the full Balearic loop rather than squeezing it into seven.

Marcelle Hailwax10 to 15% of the base charter fee is the common reference in the Mediterranean when the service has been strong, and service on good Balearic boats is usually very strong. It is always at your discretion, but plan for it in the budget: on an €80,000 week that is €8,000 to €12,000.
The practical side: the gratuity goes to the captain at the end of the charter, cash or pre-arranged transfer, and is split evenly across the whole crew, including the engineer you barely saw who kept the air conditioning alive in August.

Provisioning in Mallorca is a chef's luxury: Palma's markets and suppliers rival any Mediterranean port, so expect local red prawns from Soller, fresh fish, island lamb and cheeses, and proper Spanish wine on the list. Mid-week top-ups are easy here, which means more spontaneity than remote destinations allow.
Dietary needs are routine, not a complication: vegan, gluten-free, kosher-style, and kids' menus are everyday work. Put everything on the preference sheet, and on standard charters the food and drinks come out of the APA.
John BoullinYes, and celebrations are some of the best charters we arrange. Tell us the occasion when you inquire and the crew builds around it: decorated cabins and cakes for birthdays, cava at anchor for honeymoons, a proposal set up in a quiet cala at golden hour with the tender standing by.
For weddings and bigger events, the practical questions are guest count and format. A ceremony aboard suits intimate groups within the yacht's licensed day-guest limit; larger parties usually pair a shore venue, and Mallorca has spectacular ones, with a yacht week or day charter for the inner circle. We coordinate photographers, florists, and transport around the boat.

Thomas MerlierYes, and it has become genuinely good. Most crewed yachts in our Med fleet now carry Starlink alongside 4G/5G routers, and Balearic coastal coverage is strong to begin with, so video calls and a working morning from the aft deck are realistic on most boats.
The caveat is per-yacht variation: speed, coverage, and how many devices share the link differ. If working aboard is a requirement rather than a nice-to-have, tell us before we shortlist and we confirm the specific yacht's setup with the captain rather than assuming.
And if you want the opposite, a week where nobody can reach you, that remains fully available; anchored off Cabrera with the phone in the cabin safe is a legitimate itinerary choice.
