Port de Sóller is the hinge of every west coast route we plan: the one real harbor on the entire Tramuntana stretch, a deep horseshoe bay backed directly by the mountains. Between Andratx and here there is nowhere else to overnight in comfort, which is why our 7-day clockwise loop of Mallorca always builds a night around it.
That scarcity is exactly what makes it special. This is the wild, cliff-backed side of the island that never got built up, and Sóller is your base for seeing it by water, the only way it really can be seen.
Mooring and marina notes
The bay gives genuine all-round protection, rare on this exposed coast, and it’s where captains provision, wait out weather, or sit out a swell mid-route. The marina is compact and popular in season, so we book it ahead; anchoring in the bay is the fallback and a pleasant one. Our advice for any west coast plan: treat Sóller as your fixed point and let the day’s conditions decide the rest.
What’s around the port
The vintage wooden tram rattles from the harbor up to Sóller town, all orange groves and modernist facades, and it’s the shore excursion we recommend most on the whole island. Down the coast, Sa Calobra and the Torrent de Pareis gorge are the Tramuntana’s showpiece, far better reached by yacht than by the infamous hairpin road.
