Mallorca Catamaran Charter

A Mallorca catamaran charter is all about space, stability, and efficiency—a great choice if you want a smooth, comfortable ride while making the most of the island’s best anchorages. With a shallow draft, catamarans can get you right into Mallorca’s most stunning calas (bays), secluded beaches, and marine reserves—places where deeper-hulled yachts simply can’t go. And with lower fuel costs and the option to sail, it’s an ideal setup for those who want to explore without worrying about fuel bills stacking up.

We recommend starting in Palma, heading east towards the spectacular coastline of Cabrera National Park, Es Trenc, Cala Pi, and Porto Cristo. This route gives you beautiful anchorages, insane turquoise waters, and some of the best swimming and snorkeling spots in the Balearics. Catamarans are particularly well-suited for a laid-back, immersive experience—wake up in a quiet bay, take a morning swim straight off the deck, have your private chef prepare breakfast, and set sail for another breathtaking spot.

Get the Best Guidance for Your Mallorca Catamaran Charter

As a Mallorca-based yacht charter company, we’re not just selling charters—we live here, we sail here, and we know this coast better than anyone. We know which marinas book out months in advance, where you’ll find the best seafood straight off the boat, and which hidden bays you won’t find in the guidebooks.

Where to Go on Your Mallorca Catamaran Charter?

A full circumnavigation of Mallorca is around 150 nautical miles, doable in 7-10 days, but weather-dependent—occasional strong winds from southern France can make the north tricky. We recommend staying flexible and focusing on the best spots for catamarans.

South Coast: Easy Cruising & Stunning Calas

This is the most popular and protected charter area, with countless turquoise bays, sandy beaches, and calm waters. Cala Pi and Es Trenc are must-visits, offering crystal-clear shallows and white sand. For something more remote, head to Cabrera National Park, a marine reserve perfect for diving and snorkeling—but book ahead, as entries are limited.

West & North Coasts: Weather Dependent

Mallorca’s west coast is wild and rugged, with fewer anchorages—and weather dependent. But if you are lucky to have the weather on your side, we strongly recommend this part of Mallorca. Port de Sóller is one of our favorite spots. You’ll find beachside restaurants like Patiki Beach, plus access to the dramatic Sa Calobra cliffs. Up north, Cap de Formentor and Cala Murta offer secluded, exclusive anchorages, with luxury beach clubs like Ponderosa Beach in Playa de Muro for a high-end stop ashore.

East Coast: Charming Ports & Hidden Calas

The east coast is perfect for catamarans, with picturesque calas and vibrant seaside towns. Cala d’Or is a lively hotspot with a bustling marina and top-tier restaurants, while Cala Varques is a more secluded, laid-back option for a peaceful swim. For a cultural stop, visit Porto Cristo to explore the famous Drach Caves, or Portocolom for a laid-back, authentic Mallorcan atmosphere.

How Much Does a Mallorca Yacht Charter Cost?

When planning a crewed catamaran charter in Mallorca, it’s essential to understand the associated costs to budget effectively. Here’s a straightforward breakdown:

Base Charter Fee: Crewed catamarans in Mallorca typically start at around $15,000 per week and can go up to $100,000, depending on the yacht’s size, age, and luxury level.

Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA): This is an upfront payment, usually 25% of the base charter fee, covering expenses like fuel, food, beverages, and docking fees. For a $15,000 charter, the APA would be $3,750.

Value Added Tax (VAT): In Spain, a 21% VAT applies to the charter fee and sometimes the APA. On a $15,000 base fee, the VAT amounts to $3,150.

Crew Gratuity: While optional, it’s customary to tip the crew 10-20% of the base charter fee. A 15% tip on a $15,000 charter equals $2,250.

Estimated Total Cost: Combining these expenses, a $15,000 base charter could total approximately $24,937.50, including APA, VAT, and a 15% crew tip.

When is the Best Time for a Mallorca Catamaran Charter?

The best time to charter a Catamaran in Mallorca is typically during the summer months, from around April to September. This period offers the most favorable weather conditions, with warm temperatures, clear skies, and calm seas. Additionally, summer brings longer daylight hours, allowing for more time to explore the island’s stunning coastline.

Moreover, summer coincides with the peak tourist season in Mallorca, resulting in a lively atmosphere, bustling marinas, and numerous events and festivities to enjoy both on land and at sea.

Mallorca Catamaran Charters Outside High-Season

While summer is the most popular time for yacht charters in Mallorca, spring and early autumn can also offer pleasant weather conditions, fewer crowds, and discounted catamaran rental prices, an attractive alternative for those seeking a quieter sailing experience.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a Mallorca catamaran charter cost?

The cost of a Mallorca catamaran charter depends on the size, season, and level of luxury. Prices for a fully crewed catamaran typically range from:

  • €15,000 – €30,000 per week for a mid-range crewed catamaran (50-60 feet).
  • €30,000 – €80,000+ per week for a high-end catamaran (60-80 feet) with premium amenities.

What’s included?
✔ The yacht & professional crew (captain & chef)
✔ Luxury accommodations (cabins with en-suite bathrooms)
✔ Standard water toys (snorkeling gear, paddleboards, inflatables)
✔ Full-use of onboard facilities (lounge areas, sunbeds, etc.)

What’s NOT included?

  • Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) (~20-30% of the charter fee) covers fuel, food, drinks, mooring fees, and other expenses.
  • VAT (Value Added Tax)21% for Spain-based charters.
  • Crew gratuity (customary 5-15% of the charter fee) for outstanding service.

So, a €30,000 catamaran charter in Mallorca, including all fees (APA, VAT, and crew gratuity), comes to an estimated total of €46,800.

What amenities can I expect on a chartered catamaran?

On our luxury crewed catamaran charters in Mallorca, you can expect spacious cabins with private en-suite bathrooms, a dedicated crew including at least a captain and private chef, gourmet dining, expansive lounging areas on the foredeck and flybridge for sunbathing, swim platforms for easy water access and good selections of water toys.

What water toys are included in a Mallorca catamaran charter?

We ensure our luxury catamarans are equipped with top-tier water toys for the ultimate onboard experience. Most crewed catamarans come with paddleboards, kayaks, snorkeling gear, Seabobs, and inflatables. Some high-end catamarans even offer jet skis, e-foils, and diving equipment. We recommend checking with your broker to confirm the specific water toy selection available on your preferred yacht.

Can I sail from Mallorca to Ibiza on a catamaran charter?

Yes, but we recommend at least a 10-day charter to include Ibiza without feeling rushed. The crossing from Mallorca to Ibiza is 70 nautical miles, requiring 8-10 hours of cruising, depending on conditions. If you have one week, it’s best to focus on Mallorca and Cabrera, or you can opt for a one-way charter to Ibiza. For the most comfortable Balearic Islands yacht charter, we do recommend a motor yacht.

Do I need a permit to visit Cabrera National Park on my catamaran?

Yes, a special Cabrera National Park permit is required to visit and anchor in the marine reserve, and they book our very early. Our team handles all permit applications for our clients to ensure a hassle-free experience. We recommend booking well in advance, as spots are limited to preserve the pristine ecosystem.

Is diving possible on a Mallorca catamaran charter?

Yes! While our crewed catamarans often come with snorkeling gear, scuba diving requires a licensed dive instructor onboard. We can get you a catamaran with the instructor and fully equipped with scuba gear. We can arrange private diving excursions at world-class sites like the Cabrera Marine Reserve or the dramatic underwater caves near Sa Dragonera. If diving is a priority, let your broker know when booking your catamaran.

Can I explore the north of Mallorca on a one-week catamaran charter?

It’s possible, but the north is very weather-dependent, so flexibility is key. If you want certainty, we usually recommend focusing on the south and west. The north coast (Pollensa, Cap Formentor, Cala Tuent) is stunning but has fewer sheltered anchorages and requires longer sailing days. If you have 10+ days, you can easily explore both the north and south coasts.

Daniel and Martina were outstanding and helped us execute the trip of a lifetime ! Very responsive and available to assist with anything and everything. They made sure that every detail was addressed and that our family was treated well. We have worked with other Charter Brokers in the past and DMA Yachting service and knowledge was far superior. Highly recommend.
